The Sea Turtle Directory
The Sea Turtle Directory is a global directory of sea turtle research and conservation programs. It was created by Oceanic Society and The State of the World’s Sea Turtles (SWOT) Program to help people discover and connect with sea turtle conservation efforts worldwide.
You can use this directory to find sea turtle volunteer programs and sea turtle tourism opportunities, to find organizations conducting sea turtle research and conservation, and more. If you represent a sea turtle research or conservation program, we encourage you to add your program(s) the map and keep them up-to-date!
How To Use the Directory
You can explore the map on this page, or by visiting www.SeaTurtleDirectory.org. Here are some tips for how to use the directory:
Each marker on the map represents the location of a sea turtle research or conservation program. Clicking on an icon on the map will bring up a window with information about the program, such as the type of work they are involved with, whether they offer volunteer or tourism opportunities, and how to get in touch.
To move around the map, simply click or tap on the map and drag. Zoom in or out by using the +/- icons on the bottom right, by pinching your fingers (on a mobile device or tablet), or by using the scroll function on your mouse.
Use the filters on the bottom of the map to find what you are looking for. You can filter by:
Type of project (such as non-profit, academic, for profit, government, or other)
Sea turtle species of focus
Projects that offer volunteer programs
Projects that offer tourist activities
Thematic areas of work (such as nesting beach monitoring, in-water research, satellite telemetry, environmental education, beach protection, genetic sampling, toxin sampling, fisheries bycatch / management, and policy).
For more detailed instructions, see the Sea Turtle Directory User Manual.
Add Your Project to the Directory
If you manage a sea turtle research or conservation program, we invite you to join the directory by adding your project(s) to the map! Adding a new project is simple and takes only a few minutes — simply go here and follow the instructions to add your project. If your project or organization has multiple locations, please add each location to the map to help facilitate discovery of your work!
