Safe Earth Foundation is dedicated to studying and protecting the sea turtles of Akassa, Nigeria and engaging local communities in their work. Despite years dedicated to making Akassa a safe place for turtles, they continue to face threats from local fishing practices.

With the aim of relieving this threat to turtles, Safe Earth Foundation is expanding their outreach program to include local fishers. Their project included training local fishers on best-practices for bycaught sea turtles and on collecting data that will help researchers understand incidental capture rates.
