Nombre de Jesus and three other beaches (Zapotillal, Honda, and Real) in Costa Rica are known to be nesting grounds for sea turtles and have become important secondary nesting sites for critically endangered Eastern Pacific leatherbacks. According to the Costa Rica National Strategy for the Conservation and Protection of Sea Turtles, one of the main threats to Leatherback sea turtles and other species is the lack of supervision and management of tourist activities related to sea turtle tours on nesting beaches.

To address this issue, Kuemar aims to educate visitors and local guides about best practices for observing sea turtles by creating signs to be installed on the nesting beaches, printed materials to be placed in nearby hotels, and conducting informative talks with visitors and local guides to promote responsible practices.
